The Pegmatite Interest Group (PIG)

(revised 01/14/2019)

Are you interested in pegmatites? The Pegmatite Interest Group (PIG) is comprised of individuals who share a fascination with and appreciation of the mineralogy and petrology of pegmatites. Whatever your background or level of involvement, you are welcome to participate.

MSA-pegmatite - The Pegmatite Special Interest group has organized a list server to pass on information about Pegmatite activities. The MSA-pegmatite Listserv is an announce-only list serve. It is not set up to allow members to send messages. If you are interested in being in the directory and receiving informative pegmatite email, click here. You will be sent an e-mail requesting confirmation that you subscribed, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you to the list. You can use this same link to see the collection of prior postings.

Links - We currently list relevant pegmatite websites here, and we would be happy to add more.

Hog Holler - Compilation of book, chapter, article, abstract, or completed dissertation or thesis references on the topic of pegmatites and their minerals, starting 1 January 2013.

Events - Please let us know of time-sensitive activities relevant and accessible to PIGs. These could include workshops, field trips, summer courses, or other events. Pegmatite-related events are currently posted.

Comments & Questions - Go here to read questions and answers about pegmatites. Submit your own comments, questions or replies. The main MSA website also contains a dialogue page for questions about mineralogy.

Images -- Best Shots - Submit your best or most intriguing photos of pegmatites, minerals, etc. You can add some explanatory text, but the emphasis is on the images, not the verbal content. The listing currently has several entries.

Short Articles About Pegmatites and Their Minerals - These are short pegmatite-related articles that present more text than images.
