The PACROFI meetings bring together researchers who are interested in fluid and melt inclusions. The meeting typically attracts scientists who use inclusions to understand geologic systems, are interested in the identifying novel analytical techniques and equipment to study inclusions, and create the equations, or provide the data, needed to construct models that estimate the properties of inclusions that cannot be measured directly. Though the majority of the attendees are from North America, there is a significant minority of participants from Europe, Australasia and Asia who make PACROFI a truly international conference. The attendees typically number between 80 and 120, and the length of the conference is typically four days, one evening of registration and an ice breaker, followed by three days of talks and poster sessions.
The fluid inclusions community is a small but passionate group, so PACROFI presentations are typically followed by rigorous discussions and debate. However, the community is also very welcoming towards new researchers and students. The PACROFI meetings are excellent places for those new members to present their work in a relatively informal setting. Also, the meetings are excellent places for students to meet potential advisors for graduate school, identify postdoctoral opportunities or potential employers for after graduate school, and for new researchers to consult with experts in the field and meet potential research collaborators.
